!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . One of the sources for pics on this, oddly, has a message on right-click threatening that an attempt to save copyrighted material had been logged for possible prosecution. First of all, what. Second of all, not linking those guys, they're clearly dickbags.

You're clearly mistaken.
Your search didn't take an odd turn.
It took an awesome one!

The dickbags need to read up on the first amendment. Limited copying for commentary and critical purposes is fully protected.
Also yeah, you pretty much have 0% control over a .jpg once someone downloads it to their computer, fancy copyright laws or no.

I know, right? I was like, "Er, dafuq" If for no other reason than analysis, source code examination, or even hitting "back" or going to shortcuts or using browser add-ons can all involve a right click, so there's no "proof of intent" of anything whatsoever, even if they somehow found a crack-addled judge who would clear a case on "intent to infringe copyright". Intent is a notoriously tricky thing to substantiate, even in the case that it's meaningfully connected to a subsequent criminal act, and hotlinking is already in very muddy waters indeed. Capital crimes or things graduating to damages outside small claims court, maybe intent is meaningful, but "YOU MAY HAVE TRIED TO DOWNLOAD MY PICTURE (which is already on the computer as consequence of viewing the page), I KEEL YOU"?
I mean, combine this with the garish watermark they had on the pics that looked like it was made in Paint, and in forceful terms they can fuck right off. Not even going to name them or give them traffic.
